Friday Night at the Movies

Movie Night
Friday nights are always a great night to grab your significant other, a bag of your favorite popcorn, snacks, the beverage of your choice, and a new movie that's just hit the Redbox, Blockbusters, or Net FLix. I have been wanting to watch Winter's Bone and was lucky to have found it before it got checked out.

The quick take on this movie sounded intriguing and the fact that it was nominated for an Academy Award made it a sure pick. This is a story that takes place in the Ozark Mountains. Jennifer Lawrence plays Ree Dolly a 17 year old girl who is responsible for her younger brother, sister and her emotionally depressed mother. Her father, a long time crystal meth maker is on the lam after posting their home to obtain bond money. Ree, who is the "adult" in this family sets out to find him when he fails to show up for his trial date. Unless he is found or she can prove he has died, they will lose their home. The people she thinks can help her ( all hardcore drug dealers) tell her to leave things alone but Ree is determined to find her father no matter what the cost.

This is a drama that held my interest up to the very end. Jennifer Lawrence's performance was some of the best acting I have ever seen and it isn't hard to see why this movie was nominated for an Academy Award. The only negative thing I have to say about this movie was the way it ended. But you can decide for yourself.

If you love a good drama you will love this movie. Under my rating scale I give this movie 8 out of 10. See trailer above.

  1. I saw this film on the list of Academy Award nominees. I don't think it's arrived here in France yet...at least not in my little ville. You've certainly piqued my interest and I'll be on the lookout!

Thanks for stopping in at La Fourchette...and for leaving such lovely words behind.

    Vive La France!
