The Midas Touch

Midas Touch:  Metaphorically represents the gift of earning profits from whatever venture one undertakes.

Have you ever noticed that some people just have the "Midas touch".  I mean it seems that everything they touch turns to gold. Those who are blessed with the ability to do this also have the power to transcend the age old story of Midas the king of Phrygia, a kind man, who, because of his short sighted wish, lost his only beloved daughter with his touch by turning her into a gold statue merely by taking her hand in his.  He lost the most precious gift he had been given because he became obsessed with wealth and lost his perspective on other important and even essential aspects of his life that were not connected to this desire for gold. In addition to losing his daughter, the food that he touched turned to gold and lost it's nutritional value, etc.

If you have the magical ability to reap huge profits from any endeavor you undertake you also have a responsibility to yourself and others ... to be humble in your good fortune and considerate of those who are less fortunate. I have watched on more than one occasion people who became so overly confident of their abilities take a long fall from grace (sort of like Humpty Dumpty) because they could not handle the huge responsibility that comes with the power associated with having the Midas touch.

Envy, jealously, and greed frequently create a huge disconnect with ordinary people out here who struggle each and everyday to make ends meet. There is also an adage that says something like "be nice to the people you meet on your way up so they'll be nice to you on your way down".

So, my point is this, people who are blessed and/or fortunate enough to have a successful life need to maintain their perspective and be considerate and thoughtful of others around them who may not be so lucky (yet). R-E-S-P-E-C-T, this is what it means to me (think Aretha Franklin's hit song). If you are self-assured, love yourself and are confident in who you are and what your spiritual values are there is no need for having to tell the world about all your good deeds or to boast about who you know and what you have.  The majority of people in this world are more concerned with trying to survive...pay their bills, put a roof over their heads, and food on the table and don't have the luxury of thinking of anything else.  So, please show a little respect and not judge the person who may be walking next to you who looks disheveled, unkempt, and poor because no one is beyond a "fall from grace"...no one.
