The Color Purple

I have an affinity with the color purple.  As I age I seem to like it more and more.  Having said that, a friend of mine told me years ago that "you know you are getting older when you love the color purple and the rouge on your cheeks remind you of a clown."  I hope the latter hasn't occurred yet but how would I know as I don't have anyone to tell me. HA  I wondered what the color purple in its light and darkest shades symbolizes.  This is what I found out:

Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation.
Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color. Most children love the color purple. Purple is the color most favored by artists. Thursday's color is purple.
Violet is the color of purpose. Violet is associated with the Crown chakra (This links individual and universal).

Having read that, I do have to agree with the color giving me peace of mind.  I thought I might share a few images of various items in the palest and darkest hues of the color:

  1. I love purple on others but I don´t look that good in it myself unfortunately. I can only wear the dirtier shades with a little grey in them. Haha - funny thing to say (by your friend)! :-D

Oh, and I do think it´s important to be nice back if someone´s nice to me, it´s hard to keep up though. My Blogroll is not complete and that and this Thank you list will forever be a work in progress - but it feels worth it. :-)

  2. Purple is becoming my very favorite color in the garden...just love lavender and I planted purple angelonia last year and again this season. It's a hearty annual that goes wild...thrives in our heat and looks a lot like lavender. So pretty mixed with pink and white blooms. A big hug to you. Mona

  4. I love the color purple. In fact, before my blue, white, and beige color scheme, dark purple was very prominent in my decorating scheme. Well, no more purple in the house, but I have lavender blooming in my garden. Thanks for sharing! Wishing you a grand evening. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  5. Kris,
This is just one more thing we have in common. I ADORE THE COLOR PURPLE!! I used to have a room decorated in it, and after seeing this lovely post, I miss it. One of my bathrooms is purple too. The story about what it symbolizes is so interesting. I didn't know any of this. The ornament made by the little girl is beautiful, and the blouse and shoes are very cute. You know how much I love flowers, and the violets are gorgeous. What an enchanting and delightful post today. Tomorrow is my birthday - stop by and say Hello. Purple is my favorite color, and your post came at just the right time for my birthday. Thank you.

  6. We once went to Lavender farm in Norfolk, fabulous, field after field of highly scented lavender. The chair you show above is lovely, just right for my bedroom. I seem to be in a pink phase at the moment, perhaps I am working my way to purple.xx

  8. Oooh, I love purple. Perhaps because it goes with my grey hair (I went all grey very early, so I don't think of it as ageing).
