A Nose For Perfume

We all have something that we love more than anything else. For some it might be shoes, or jewelry, purses or clothes but for moi it is perfume! I j'adore fragrances and find it very difficult not to purchase it. I often know my scents so well that I often purchase perfume without even smelling it first... just by reading what notes are in the perfume.
Coco Mademoiselle
Let's start out with a fragrance that was created for Coco Chanel called Coco Mademoiselle. It was launched by Chanel in 1989. It is a light and sensual fragrance with top notes of orange, bergamot; Middle notes of jasmine petals, and morning rose and clean notes of patchouli and vetiver. I once had a sales person tell me at the Chanel counter that Coco Mademoiselle was a perfume that not all people could pull off wearing, it wasn't for everybody but I was able to wear it and wear it I did. There was not a time when I didn't wear this perfume that I was complimented on it.

Prada Infusion D'Iris

OR  Prada Infusion D 'Iris - This is a really clean and fresh smelling scent that is light and airy.  The name "Infusion D' Iris is inspired by the ancient and revered six-month-long infusion process to draw soft fresh notes from the root of the Iris plant.  It has notes of mandarin, galbanum, orange and orange blossoms, iris,   cedar and vetiver.   I also wear this and love it.

Balenciaga
Balenciaga Paris - A mysterious and fragile fragrance with sweet notes of pepper, violet leaves, cedarwood, patchouli and vetiver.  This is a lovely scent and one that I wear often.

OR

Hermes Elixer des Merveille
The fragrance, Hermes Elixer des Merveille has an oriental fragrance and has a list of notes that even I can't believe.  Let's start with Peru balsam, vanilla sugar, amber, sandelwood, tonka bean, patchouli, Siam resin, caramel, oak, incense, orange peel, and cedar.  This is one perfume that I purchased just by reading the notes in it.  It has also brought me many compliments and people wanting to know the name of it.

Most people would be afraid of purchasing perfume without first smelling it but for me I can always be sure that by reading the notes and the descriptions I will like it without even smelling it first.  Weird huh?  That's why the title of this post is "A Nose for Perfume".

What's your favorite fragrance?  What notes are you drawn to? Fruity?  Floral? Oriental?

  1. Coco Mademoiselle, and Balenciaga Paris are two of my favourite scents. I must now go and try the other two you suggest. Still love Chanel NO.5.

  3. You will not believe this but I have NEVER purchased a bottle of perfume for myself . It has always been a gift. I know I'm pretty spoiled/blessed and have a lot of things but still feel it's a luxury. Choose one for me and I'll put it on my list for my husband. Have a great weekend. Mona

  4. Well we must have been separated at birth. I wear Balenciaga, Annik Goutal's Camille and a wonderful carnation scent I got in Florence at the Antica Pharmalogica at Santa Maria Novella chuch, a fabulous experience. Have been wanting to try the Hermes Elixir Merveille since I got a sample a few years ago. I adore fragrances by Jo Malone.

  5. Marguerite,

I have been wanting some La Voliette perfume by Annik Goutal for some time now.

I have some Santa Maria Novella potpourri that I j'adore! It smells wonderful and if your perfume is anything like it MUST be divine! I have been wearing the Hermes Elixer Merveille for a long time now and I also love it!.

Hope you are having a great weekend? How is construction on your home coming along?

    Susan,

I still wear the original Chanel # 5. Have you tried Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte? It has a wonderful lemon and woody smell to it. For the summer it is very, very nice!

  6. Hi Kris, We are in St. Augustine, FL this weekend for a family wedding. It's really pretty and well maintained. The historic center of town and bayfront area have wonderful old homes and some impressive old architecture. The wedding will be tomorrow afternoon in the cathedral in the center of town. Construction in Austin is going great. New windows installed last week. Kitchen layout and details coming up. So much fun. Will be using grey and greige in the color palette. Any plans to come south to Houston? Would love to meet up!
