The Good Samaritan

Image via ~ eclecticemily.com
This blog post was one written last spring when I first started blogging.  I wanted to re-post it because I see instances like the one I am describing below all the time and I am always amazed at the number of people who just walk on or turn their eyes in a different direction.  What do you think they are thinking? I hope this post will help us all remember that this could possibly be us....

I am always amazed at what I see when my husband and I go for our morning walk and this morning was no different.  As my husband and I were taking our usual walk, we saw a man walking down a walkway with a cane that is typically used by blind people.  He looked well dressed and as we met up with where the walkway met up with the main sidewalk he looked a bit lost so we asked him if he was okay and he asked us if the sidewalk was a cross street that led to the corner and the bus stop.  Well, we didn't see any bus stop but we had passed one on the corner.  It seemed he had come out the wrong door and was heading in the wrong direction.  He was blind and his eyes had been dilated while he was in the doctor's office.  (Why they let him leave like that I don't know! )

He was starting to get more confused and agitated and kept asking if he was on the street we had just crossed over.  We asked him if he needed help and he said yes.  We escorted him to the bus stop and while chatting with him found out that he was 85 years old, a very young 85 year old.  He talked about how discourteous and impatient the bus drivers were and how drivers had previously run over the tip of his cane while he was awaiting the bus.  We could sympathize with him as we too had experienced first hand the rudeness of drivers and how they fail to obey traffic signals so this was nothing new to us.

The bus had pulled away from the stop just minutes before so he would have to wait about 15 minutes.  I was concerned and asked if he was going to be all right and he said he would.  As we told him goodbye, I wondered if he would be okay and why he was alone.  Does he have children or a wife at home and if he does why did he go alone to the doctors office? Even more worrisome is the question of why a medical professional would let a blind man with dilated pupils leave the office alone?

As we crossed over and continued on our way I turned around to see if I could still see him and couldn't help but wonder if that might not be me one day and wondered if there would be a good samaritan there to help me.

Lesley Holmes

After reading a post recently by Kerry of Design du Monde's blog (which you can view here http://designdumonde.blogspot.com/) on one of her favorite children's watercolor book, she inspired me (thank you Kerry) to share with you a book by Lesley Holmes who is an artist who specializes in watercolor and pencil sketches of the countryside and animals of the Cotswolds.  I purchased two of her books, A Cotswold Sketchbook, one for myself (which she so graciously signed for me) and one for a friend of mine who is British in 2001. In addition to A Cotswolds Sketchbook she also has books of her sketches on Venice, (my next purchase from her hopefully) and a Lesley Holmes Sketchbook.  She also sells etchings, originals, cards and prints.  Here is a sampling of her sketches from A Cotswold Sketchbook.

Wouldn't these make a lovely framed collage?  Read more about her work(HERE)
Also, you can still enter my giveaway for an Laudree cookbook (HERE).

Giveaway

I always found February a very dreary month despite Valentine's Day coming in the  middle of the month.  Although, the bright pinks and reds associated with Valentine's Day do help to chase away the blues for a bit, it still leaves me a little blah feeling.

It is usually in February that I get the itch for spring and all those gorgeous colors associated with it.  The beautiful color of the purple hyacinth, yellow daffodils, and the assorted colors of the tulips.  LOL  Spring is my most favorite season and has always put the "bounce" back into my step.  I love smelling the sweet aroma of the flowers and watching the brown sodden earth turn into that beautiful shade of green.

Because it is such a quiet month, I thought I would have a Giveaway.  Since I love to do this, I can't think of a better time than now.  Now, for the good part...I am giving away a gorgeous book with French recipes from Laudree's.  Not only do the recipes sound faBulous but the book comes in a pretty pink box with Laudree's displayed on the front, with luscious pink tissue paper covering the book that when opened shows a gorgeous purple suede book with silver printing on the front. Well, see for yourself....

Isn't it pretty?  Have you ever received a book like this?  Wrapped so lovely!  I first found out about it while visiting Chocolates and Croissants blog(HERE) reading one of her book reviews.  (She does wonderful book reviews!)  It is filled with the most mouth watering dishes.

Now, to enter the giveaway:

1.  Leave a comment under this blog post.

2.  If you aren't already a follower, follow me and leave another comment.

3.  Like me on La Petite boutique de perles Facebook page and leave an
     additional comment.

The contest ends Wednesday, February 29 at midnight CST.

Spread the word and may the best person win!

Liebster Blog

I was awarded the Liebster Blog award by Jane who's blog, shoes and interiors to match is one of my favorite blogs.  You can visit her HERE.  Liebster in German means favorite, dearest, beloved and is for bloggers with less than 200 followers.  Jane's blog is a favorite of mine because it is funny, educational, (I have actually learned a thing or two) and has plenty of style!  I am always excited to see what she has posted.

Thanks Jane, I am happy to accept this award.  This award is supposed to be shared with (5) other people but because this will make the (3rd) time I have received it, I decided to forgo sending it to (5) people who's blogs I love to read because I love reading all of them and I can't select only (5). So, having said that, I share this award with all of my readers who have less than 200 followers because you all deserve it. I love reading and checking each day for new posts and am amazed at the wonderful topics that you share with all of us bloggers.  So, congratulations to all of you!

This has been a busy day for me cutting fabric and sewing new items that I will be adding to my Etsy shop.  I now have a headache and since I have finished for the day, I am going to watch a bit of TV and relax.

I found this quote and I thought hummm.... maybe I shouldn't?  LOL LOL
