Eye Candy

To lighten things up, I found some gorgeous Swedish and French furniture.  There is no rhyme or reason for what I have chosen...just items that struck my fancy.

I've got some refreshments ready...grab a caffe and a macaroon, get nice and cozy and enjoy the show.

3rd Installment of Chair Re-do

After spending the past week and weekend painting the chairs and the base of my table I finally finished with the Annie Sloan Paris Grey.  I started this morning putting on the second coat of Old White but was not impressed with how it was looking.  (Lucky for me I had only painted a lower rung before deciding I didn't like it.)  So, I decided to sand the Paris Grey (by hand) on all the chairs and base and it was more to my liking.  It is very shabby/grey.  Because the chairs already had a under coat of an Old white to begin with, that is the white you see peeking out beneath the grey.

This is after one coat of clear wax and no buffing yet.  I wanted to let it sit until tomorrow to harden before I buffed it out.

All of the chairs and base have been waxed and will be buffed tomorrow.  I will show pictures after I have buffed and put the chairs seats and tabletop back
on.

This has been a learning experience for me not to mention a very time consuming one...A fairly large project for a first attempt but considering everything, I am pleased with the outcome.

I know there are some of you who aren't into a worn/faded look but for me I am satisfied with the outcome.  Could I have don't better? Probably, but I am always my own worst critic.  What do you think of them so far?

2nd Installment of Kitchen Set

So,  This is the second installment of my re-do.  There isn't really much to tell you all  except that I have finished 4 chairs and still have the base of my table to paint.  If I hadn't had to remove the milk based paint from several years ago I probably would have been done completely with the 1st coat of Paris Grey.  Here is a better look at the color of the chairs( I think).

It has been very time consuming to paint all the rungs and legs of these chairs but despite this, it has not taken nearly as long as I thought it would.

Painting in-between the lattice proved to be very time consuming.

Isn't this a gorgeous color!I just love it.

What I can tell you is that I have found this paint so easy to use.  The paint goes on effortlessly and is such a pleasure to use.  So far, I love this paint!  The next installment will be on painting a thinner coat of Old White over the top of this color.

I'm Beginning to Like What I See...

Today, I decided to start the painting process of my kitchen chairs and the base of my table with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  Several of you are interested in how this works and what I think of it.  I will be posting throughout this week and into next week on my progress.  It is a tedious challenge painting chairs i.e. legs and rungs of chair.  Here are a few of the before photos:

Annie Sloan Paris Grey 

Paris Grey...I'm loving this color

So, I was able to finish one chair today because I also have to remove some milk paint that I had used several years ago before I use the new paint. It's not hard to remove because it just peels off like skin. I was not impressed with the milk paint and wouldn't recommend it.  It wasn't very durable and required a lot of prep work that Annie Sloan paint does not require.  But, because it had started to peel I was afraid it would become weighted with paint and start flaking off.

I am very impressed with ASCP (Annie Sloan Chalk Paint) and find it is extremely easy to use and goes on smooth.  It is a matte paint and of course will have to be waxed and buffed after I finish the two coats of paint.  I also have not noticed any odor with this paint at all!

So, as I progress I will be posting pictures and telling you how it is going.  Stay tuned.  What do you think of the color?

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

What have we here?

Looks like someone is going to be busy...

Will you look at all these gorgeous chalk paint colors by Annie Sloan.  To be used alone,  mixed with another color, or one on top of another then waxed with a dark or clear coat of Annie Sloan waxes to enhance the colors.  Wax can be applied with a brush haphazardly or rubbed with a clean cloth.  Each application giving an entirely different look.

I have four of these to paint minus the lovely honey colored seat...

And one of these.  I will be sharing with you the "how to's of using Annie Sloan Chalk paint with step by step instructions and showing before and after pictures.  Using the color chart in the second photo, can you guess which of the two colors I will be using?  Click onto picture to enlarge it.

What's Your Favorite Chair?

I love chairs.  It doesn't matter if they are cloth, leather or wooden, I love them all.  Getting away from the more traditional chairs, I thought it might be fun to look at some of the newer designs Restoration Hardware is coming out with.
